There’s something different about photographing a hotel or resort.
You’re not just documenting a beautiful space – you’re capturing the feeling of being there. The morning light coming through a suite, a perfectly styled cocktail by the pool, the texture of a tropical garden, or the moment a guest finally slows down and enjoys the view. That’s what makes hotel and resort brand photography so powerful. The right visual content doesn’t simply show potential guests what a property looks like. It helps them imagine themselves there.
Recently, I had the opportunity to experience and photograph Excellence Riviera Cancun, an adults-only all-inclusive resort in Mexico’s Riviera Maya. With its hacienda-inspired architecture, tropical gardens, six pools, beachfront setting, restaurants, spa, and luxury suites, the property offered no shortage of visual inspiration.
Capturing More Than a Destination
When creating content for a hospitality brand, I’m always looking beyond the obvious “pretty picture.”
Of course, the destination matters. But what makes a resort memorable is the experience surrounding it. At Excellence Riviera Cancun, that meant photographing the details that make the stay feel elevated – from the resort’s architecture and tropical landscaping to its suites, pools, beachfront spaces, dining experiences, and moments of relaxation.
One of my personal favorite details of the resort was the true escapism that you felt when there. I find it hard many times when traveling to really find a retreat from the outside world, and Excellence Riviera Cancun did just that. With this specific all-inclusive resort being adults only, it offered an environment that cultivated the perfect mix of tranquility and entertainment.
Those are the kinds of images that can live far beyond a single Instagram post. They can become website imagery, social media content, digital advertising, email marketing, promotional campaigns, editorial features, and more.
That’s the goal behind my approach to hospitality brand photography: creating a library of versatile visual assets that helps a brand continue telling its story long after the shoot is over.
Why Hospitality Brands Need More Than Traditional Photography
Today’s travel audience wants to experience a destination before they book it. That means hotels and resorts need content that works across more than just their website.
Still photography can establish the look and feel of a property, while short-form video and user-generated-style content can bring the guest experience to life in a more immediate and relatable way.
Excellence Riviera Cancun was the perfect example of how many different stories can exist within one property. Its official gallery highlights everything from white-sand beaches and pool areas to sunsets, concierge experiences, suites, and the overall resort environment.
A personal passion of mine is capturing the entire essence of an experience and the emotion that comes with it, especially if that means capturing a variety of media (and not just photos).
For hospitality brands, that can mean creating a combination of:
- Luxury brand photography
- Short-form travel and resort videos
- Social media content
- UGC-style videos
- Lifestyle imagery
- Property and amenity photography
- Food, beverage, and spa content
- Room and suite photography
- Destination-focused storytelling
Creating Content That Makes People Want to Book
Beautiful photography is important, but for a travel or hospitality brand, the ultimate goal is to make someone stop scrolling and think: “I want to be there.” That’s the type of content I love creating.
My work combines brand photography, videography, and social-first content to help travel and hospitality brands showcase not just what they offer, but what it feels like to experience it.
Whether you’re a luxury resort, boutique hotel, vacation rental, tourism brand, travel company, or hospitality experience, your visual content should work as hard as your brand does.
If you’re looking for a brand photographer, videographer, or UGC creator for your hotel or resort, I’d love to create content that gives your audience a reason to stop scrolling, and start planning their next trip.
